Madagascar Rosewood (CITES)
Madagascar Rosewood demand has increased during the last years because it’s also one of the similar woods to Palo Santo de Río, more and more protected each time.
It’s a perfect wood for acoustic guitar sides making, both for its sound and beauty. Its acoustic qualities make it a dream wood for closing guitars sounding boards. As for its appearance, it’s really recognized for the common black grains on its surface that create a “spider” draw very appreciated and visually attractive.
Find different qualities of Madagascar Rosewood sides for acoustic guitar at Maderas Barber.
BOTANICAL NAME: Dalbergia baronii
COMMERCIAL NAMES:
ORIGIN: Madagascar
DESCRIPTION: Brown in colour wood with dark netting and a 920 kg/m3 density. The sapwood colour of this wood is yellow and the heartwood goes from yellowish brown to dark orange or reddish brown colour. Dark grain is common so it can create a spider-webbing figure. This grain is also usually straight with a thin-medium texture.
SUGGESTIONS: Working with this wood is usually easy, but you have to be careful with gluing and finishing due to its oily nature.
DRYING: Drying time is slow. The process can be interrupted for its oily property, so be careful.
USES: Besides being used for fingerboards, it’s also used for sounding boards.
