Gouges, Chisels, Files and Mallets
Chisels and gouges are essential tools that cannot be missing in a lutherie workshop. They consist of a steel blade and a wooden neck. These tools are usually used to carve and rough down the most complex and less accessible pieces. Both the gouges and the chisels can be found in different formats and sizes. Choosing the right tool will make our work much easier.
In the case of the mallets its most widespread use is found in the carving. Although they are also widely used to adjust the pieces of the instrument and in all kinds of repairs. The most commonly used mallets for lutherie are made of wood or rubber, two materials which, when used with the right strength, do not damage the instrument.
