Pfeil Half-Round Gouge 7/14

Pfeil is currently the world leader in the manufacture of gouges and wood carving tools. Pfeil gouges are made from a special chromium-vanadium alloy proprietary to the brand. This steel is forged and polished using the latest technology, without neglecting the tradition that has earned it recognition from professionals and enthusiasts worldwide. The tools undergo a special hardening process using an electric furnace, ensuring a blade hardness of 59-61 HRC throughout. The final sharpening is done by hand, making them one of the few gouges that come pre-sharpened and ready to use. Made 100% in Switzerland by Pfeil, a company with over 100 years of experience in the production of cutting tools.

The blade is attached to the octagonal ash wood handle using inner metal ferrules. The handle finish uses solvent-free oils.

Pfeil half-round gouges are essential tools in lutherie thanks to their combination of precision, ergonomics, and durability. They offer a strong and durable edge, ideal for working with hard woods such as maple or rosewood. Their semi-flat profile allows for smooth cuts on slightly curved or flat surfaces, making them especially useful when shaping bridges, adjusting bracing, and carving details on soundboards. The ash wood handle ensures a comfortable and secure grip, allowing precise control during extended work. Their balanced design and excellent cutting ability make them a favorite choice among luthiers who value artisanal precision.
