Side Dots Template
Overview Side Dots Template:
The Side Dots Template allows you to do exactly what it promises: drill the holes where these pieces will be inserted with absolute precision. Holes are drilled in the template for you to use 1, 2 or 3 mm markers.
First, you will need a piece of wood or MDF with a 90º planed face and side. Drill 3 holes in a straight line parallel to the bottom of the block and where the oval slots are in the template. These holes should be located about 3 cm from the bottom so that the template has enough space to be positioned correctly.
Now take 3 wood screws and screw the template to the block. Don't put too much pressure on the template with the screws: it should just stay in place. Place the block on the fretboard with the template leaning over the side where you want to place the side dots. Place in the correct position (ideally you should have outlined the location of the side dots with a pencil or marker beforehand) and recheck in different positions on your fretboard. If you want to center the side dots between the frets, mark a center line and align the dot template with the center line.
Mark the position of the side dots with an eyeleteer. Drill the holes (1.5 mm deep is enough) and glue the markers in place with a small drop of CA glue or Titebond.
