General Description of the Lampblack:
Carbon Black 50gr is a product used in lutherie and other craft work such as jewelry making and furniture restoration. This fine, black powder is composed mainly of carbon and is used to create black pigments and fillers in various materials. Carbon powder can be used in different stages of guitar construction. One of the most common uses is in the creation of black putty for ebony inlays. By mixing a little cyanoacrylate with carbon black powder, a smooth, easy-to-apply black putty can be obtained to fill the grooves created when inlays are placed in the wood.
Renowned luthier Frank Ford also suggests that charcoal powder can also be used to darken the glue line when joining pieces of dark wood, such as ebony. Mixing charcoal powder with wood or leather glue creates a black glue that can be used to laminate ebony or any other dark wood. Another possible use for charcoal powder in lutherie is to stain guitar joints. By adding charcoal powder to an alcohol solution, a black dye can be created that can be applied to guitar joints to create a uniform, dark finish.
