AA Quilted Maple Electric Guitar / Bass Body Tops
Overview AA Quilted Maple Electric Guitar / Bass Body Tops:
Reserved for high-end electric guitars and basses, quilted maple tops are unquestionably one of the most eye-catching pieces in our catalog.
The tops are perfect in combination with other lighter and cheaper woods. This way, you can enjoy the beauty and timbral qualities of maple without making the resulting instrument too expensive or heavy. In addition, its thickness will allow you to carve them and make all kinds of recesses where the quilted pattern will reveal its full potential. Renowned brands and manufacturers such as Charvel, Schecter, BC Rich for guitars or Fodera and Alembic for basses use -among many others- this kind of maple... The beauty of a quilted maple top cannot be understated.
¿What is quilted maple?
Quilted maple is a very striking pattern that occurs in maple, especially in Oregon maple (Acer macrophyllum). This growth anomaly causes the appearance - on flatsawn boards - of colorful shapes reminiscent of ripples in water, or bubbles. Of course, these pieces have the same acoustic properties as normal maple wood. It is their suggestive appearance that makes them so sought after. This distinctive quilted pattern is found only in a few other woods (such as Sapelli).
In the AA Grade quilted maple tops we will find pieces that are ideal for dyeing. The quilted pattern is not as present as in the upper grades, or they have some small defects such as knots or stains. But once they have been dyed (especially if it is a dark color or is combined with sunburst), they can be as flashy as the highest quality tops.
You've seen it on a multitude of boutique instruments. Now is the time to use it on your project.
