Safety Planer
Overview Safety Planer:
A thicknesser planer the size of the palm of your hand: the Safety Planer. Space in a workshop is limited, and a luthier has to be very thoughtful about what tools and machinery he uses in that amount of space, both in terms of footprint and price. Most thicknessers are expensive and take up a lot of vital (and usually limited) space in a luthier's shop. With the Safety Planer accessory and a bench drill you have your own thicknesser.
The Safety Planer Attachment is designed to be used with a bench drill only and has a 12.7mm (1/2") shank. Operating speed should be between 2500 to 3000 RPM maximum. The cutting area is 70mm (2-3/4") and the cutting height is 6.35mm (1/4"). We recommend making successive runs and varying the height depending on the hardness of the wood to be processed.
The cast aluminum part has 3 independent blades. When one of the blades is worn, simply rotate it 180º to use the side that is unused. There is a small 5 mm gap from the edge of the accessory to the cutting area, but even so, keep your fingers away from the blades!
