Pau Rosa Wood for lathe
Overview Pau Rosa Wood for lathe:
Pau Rosa (also known as Pau Ferro, not to be confused with the Machaerium scleroxylon that we sell under the same name) is a very hard and dense African wood with a pinkish-orange color. It is perfect for lathe work due to its stiffness and high luster without the need for excessive polishing. Its appearance is reminiscent of Mexican granadillo, and can be confused with it in some cases, although it never has the brownish tones of the latter.
Features:
- Botanical Name: Swartzia fistuloides
- Origin: Mozambique
- Density: 1100 Kg/m3
- Wood Description: Beech is typically a pale cream color, sometimes with a pink or brown hue. Veneer tends to be slightly darker colored, as slicing the veneer usually requires the wood to be prepared with steam, which gives the wood a more golden tone. Flatsawn surfaces tend to be very plain, while quartersawn surfaces exhibit a silvery fleck pattern.
- Recommendations: Responds well to both hand and machine tools. Turns, glues, and finishes well.
- Uses: Fence posts, furniture, and turned objects.
