BOTANIC NAME: Piratinera Guianensis

COMMOM NAMES: Snakewood, Amourette.

ORIGIN: South America

DESCRIPTION: It owes its name to its characteristic snakeskin patterns. This wood is usually reddish brown, with dark brown or black patches. The color tends to darken and homogenize along the years and exposure. It has a straight grain, with a fine and uniform texture. Snakewood has a natural brightness and is very durable and resistant to insect attack, although it is rarely used for outdoor applications where durability would be a problem. This wood has a huge relationship with the Bloodwood, so they share many work properties; so the wood is extremely dense and has a pronounced effect of blunting on the cutters. The Snakewood also tends to be quite brittle and it can easily splinter while you work with it. In spite of the difficulties to work it, the Snakewood can be turned well and it can be finished with a high polish.

La mejor madera

Es la mejor madera que he trabajado para instrumentos de viento, eso si, con un cuidad muy riguroso por qué tiende a rajarse.
