Overview Gotoh Ukulele Machinehead Gold UPTL/UBB-GG:
The Gotoh Ukulele Machinehead Gold UPTL/UBB-GG is composed of a planetary gear that results in finer tuning.
The difference between the planetary gear and the friction gear is its ability to maintain tuning. In the latter, the tuning depends on the friction or tension of the screw in the tuning peg. If the screw is tightened too much, it will be difficult to turn it and tune the instrument. If, on the other hand, you loosen it too much, it will turn easily, but it will go out of tune.
Also, the friction mechanism does not have a transmission ratio, so a small turn can produce large changes in the tone of the string.
On the other hand, with the new Gotoh UTPL machine heads for ukulele with planetary gearing, the tuning becomes much more precise thanks to its central gearing accompanied by several smaller gears that rotate around it.
UPTL tuning pegs share the look and weight of friction tuning pegs, however, they have a 1:4 gear ratio, making fine-tuning much easier to dial in or adjust.
