Gibson Trapezoid Inlays Routing Template
Overview Gibson Trapezoid Inlays Routing Template:
With the Gibson Trapezoid Inlays Routing Template you will be able to carve out the inlay holes typical of many of this company's legendary models. Made of 5mm clear plexiglass, the template has a marked center line to make it easy for you to center the piece and the shapes of the four sizes of inlays.
Use a shallow router bit or ideally a Dremel or similar. Place the template firmly centered on the workpiece and secure it with double-sided tape. Check that the template is steady and does not wobble or move.
Always start routing from the center: this avoids possible problems on the edges, which are the most delicate part, and gives us a better idea of whether the working speed is adequate. It is better to work slowly and remove the material in several passes. This minimizes the risk of chipping the edges of the inlay or directly breaking the drill bits, which are usually very brittle.
Do not get close to the edges of the inlays until you can support the router guide or the part that does not cut with the edge of the template. This way the edges will be perfectly defined. Finally, don't forget to calculate the depth of the inlays taking into account the radius of your fretboard.
