Malaysian Blackwood is one of the most distinctive woods in the MB Exclusive catalogue and one of our favourites. Endemic to Malaysia, it stands out for its very high density — between 1000 and 1300 kg/m³ — and for a variety of figures, colours and patterns that make it impossible to look away from: dark streaks running longitudinally across the piece, warm tones contrasting with near-black zones, and a grain that varies from piece to piece. For many luthiers it is a future alternative to Brazilian Rosewood, combining extraordinary visual impact with first-class acoustic qualities.
