Birdseye Maple Drop Top 500/550 × 170/200 × 7 mm
Birdseye Maple Drop Top 500/550 × 170/200 × 7 mm
Birdseye maple (Acer saccharum) is an iconic tonewood in electric guitar and bass construction, admired for its natural pattern of small spiral eyes that create a distinctive and elegant look. This two-piece symmetrical set —known as a drop top— is used as a decorative top on the body of the instrument, adding a unique visual presence and a refined handcrafted character.
Unlike the carved, thicker tops found on instruments such as Gibson® Les Paul® or PRS®, these thinner tops are not intended for deep carving but rather for a slight contour or flat binding-style finish. The result is a stable, perfectly calibrated surface that enhances the maple’s figure without adding unnecessary weight or affecting the instrument’s resonance.
North American hard maple provides brightness, attack, and definition, while the birdseye figure brings an unmatched visual identity. Once finished or stained, these pieces reveal three-dimensional reflections and a beauty difficult to equal with any other wood species.
