Apple Wood

BOTANIC NAME: Malus domestica

ORIGIN: Europe

DESCRIPTION: It has a density of 830 Kg/m3. Its heartwood can vary from a light reddish or grayish brown to a deeper red/brown. The grain of Apple wood is sometimes seen with streaks of darker and lighter bands of color. Its sapwood has a pale cream color.

RECOMMENDATIONS: It can be difficult to work due to its high density and it can burn easily when being machined. Apple wood glues, stains, finishes, and turns well.

USE: It is mostly used for carving, turned items, tool handles and other small specialty wood objects.
