BOTANIC NAME: : Entandrophragma cylindricum

COMMOM NAMES: Sapele, Sapelli, Sapeli.

ORIGIN: Central Africa.

DESCRIPTION: Density 650 Kg/m3.  Heartwood is a golden to dark reddish brown. Colour tends to darken with age. Grain is interlocked, and sometimes wavy. Fine uniform texture and good natural luster.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Sapele can be troublesome to work in some machining  operations, (i.e., planning, routing, etc.), resulting in tear out due to its interlocked grain. Sapele has a slight blunting effect on cutters, but it turns, glues, and finishes well.

DRYING: Normal drying speed. Risk of deformations.

USES: Plywood, furniture, veneer, cabinetry, flooring, musical instruments.
