Few parts of an instrument are more beautiful than a curly maple violin back. This highly prized wood has been used for centuries in bowed string instruments, virtually without exception. The reason is simple: maple is for all its properties (physical, aesthetic, tonal) the best choice for multiple parts of the instrument. Add to this the incredible look it gets once varnished and you will understand why it is so successful.

European maple - Acer pseudoplatanus - is a light-colored wood, with golden reflections that intensify when oxidized. It is a wood with no appreciable grain, which in many cases eliminates the need to use a filler. It is easy to work despite its hardness (although it requires sharp tools) and a bright and attractive finish can be achieved simply by using a scraper or planer, without even needing sandpaper. It is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant woods to work with.

In the AA grade backs you will find pieces with regular flaming, uniform and without blotches on a large part of their surface. These backs are often used in medium-high level instruments. In the end, it is the quality of the wood combined with the skill of the artisan what makes the difference.

Description Générale Fond Violon Érable Ondé Spéciale :

Peu de parties d'un instrument sont aussi belles qu'un fond de violon en érable ondé. Ce bois très prisé est utilisé depuis des siècles dans la construction d'instruments à cordes frottées, presque sans exception. La raison en est simple : l'érable est pour toutes ses qualités (physiques, esthétiques, sonores) le meilleur choix pour de multiples parties de l'instrument. Ajoutez à cela l'aspect incroyable qu'il a une fois verni et vous comprendrez pourquoi il a tant de succès.

L'érable européen -Acer pseudoplatanus- est un bois clair, aux reflets jaunâtres qui s'intensifient lorsqu'il est oxydé. Il s'agit d'un bois sans pores appréciables, ce qui, dans de nombreux cas, élimine la nécessité d'utiliser une bouche-pores. Il est facile à travailler malgré sa dureté (bien qu'il nécessite des outils tranchants) et une finition brillante et attrayante peut être obtenue simplement à l'aide d'une lame ou d'une brosse, sans même utiliser de papier de verre. Sans aucun doute l'un des bois les plus agréables à travailler.

Dans les fonds de 1ère qualité, vous trouverez des pièces au flammage régulier, uniformes et sans taches sur une grande partie de leur surface. Ces fonds sont souvent utilisés pour des instruments de niveau moyen-haut. En fin de compte, c'est la qualité du bois combinée à l'habileté de l'artisan qui fait la différence.
