SCIENTIFIC NAME: Anadenanthera colubrina

ORIGIN: South America

DESCRIPTION: It has a density of 1000 kg/m3. It has a heartwood pale to medium reddish brown, frequently with darker brown to black streaks throughout. Its color tends to darken with age. Its sapwood is a pale yellow to pinkish brown. It has a grain irregular and/or interlocked, a fine uniform texture and it is naturally lustrous. It is a wood very durable and resistant to termites, though more susceptible to other insect attacks.

RECOMMENDATIONS: It is generally hard to work with on account of its irregular grain and high density. It also has a pronounced blunting effect on cutters.

USE: It is ideal for woodturning.
