Alder

BOTANIC NAME: Alnus glutinosa.

ORIGIN: Europe

DESCRIPTION: Density 500-550 kg/m3. Alder tends to be a light tan to reddish brown; colour darkens and reddens with age. There is no visible distinction between heartwood and sapwood. Straight grain and fine wood fibres.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Machinery is done without much difficulty, but tools should be very sharp. Easy gluing and finishing.

USES: Electric guitar bodies and bass guitar bodies.
