New flamenco guitar building course

We are very happy to announce this new flamenco guitar building course organized by Solera Flamenca and Maderas Barber. Throughout this post we will tell you the first details of what will undoubtedly be a great experience for those who want to build their first guitar and also for those experienced luthiers looking to improve their building technique.

The construction of the Spanish guitar is a practice that for more than a century has brought together the most outstanding craftsmen in the world.

Today, the joint work of Solera Flamenca and Maderas Barber together with Luthiers Francisco Sánchez and Francisco Barba, consolidate the history of the flamenco guitar in this course.

The construction of the handcrafted Spanish guitar

Solera Flamenca is one of the most important guitar stores in the world. Its stock of new and used flamenco guitars contains names of luthiers who have made the history of this instrument great: Antonio de Torres, Manuel Reyes, Hermanos Conde, Francisco Barba, Miguel Rodríguez, Gerundino Fernández, Marcelo Barbero, Enrique García, Vicente Arias, Santos Hernández. These are just some of the signatures that we can see in his catalog.

It is better if all this is told to us by one of the protagonists, Jordi Franco is the director of Solera Flamenca and mentor of this guitar course in which he has been working for years.

What will be the characteristics of the flamenco guitar building course?

The classes of construction of a flamenco guitar will be face to face, twelve full days in charge of the teacher Francisco Sanchez and will take place in twelve consecutive days.

At the end you will take your finished guitar with you (without varnishing). The course will have 10 places available and each student will work individually on their own workbench.

In parallel, you will learn the technique of shellac (French polishing) on a practice piece of wood. Once this technique is incorporated, you will receive a Masterclass given by Juan Antonio Barba (Francisco Barba Guitars).

The guitar building course will take place at Solera Artisans School, located within the Solera Flamenca VILLAGE facilities (Vacarisses, Barcelona).

This will be part of an immersive experience in which you will not only learn the art of construction, also you will be part of an incredible professional and human team, share experiences and recreational moments. There will also be room to enjoy the sound of the guitars from the Solera Flamenca collection, played by world-class guitarists.

There are two confirmed editions for this summer 2024: The first one will take place from July 1st to 14th and the second one from August 18th to 31st.
