Malaysian Blackwood for Woodturning and Carving
Malaysian Blackwood for Woodturning and Carving
Malaysian Blackwood is among the densest and most decorative woods available for turning and carving. With a density between 1000 and 1300 kg/m³, it features a deep tone, delicate grain and extremely fine texture for crisp, high-contrast details.
Originating from Asia and botanically known as Diospyros ebonasea, it requires very sharp tools and skilled hands. Excellent for both small forms and dense pieces. Ideal for contrasted bowls, ornamental details, turned handles or inlays. Use respiratory protection while working, as the dust may be irritating. Our store offers special chisels, fine abrasives and neutral oils to work it safely and precisely.
