Poplar burl is a light, decorative wood with a unique figure full of swirls and eyes, caused by a natural deformation called a “burl.” This unpredictable pattern makes it highly valued for visually striking projects.
With a density of 480 kg/m³, it’s easy to turn and carve, allowing clean cuts and detailed shapes with minimal effort. Native to Europe and botanically known as Populus nigra, it’s ideal for ornamental bowls, carved panels, artistic figures or standout accents. Some makers use colored resins to fill cavities and enhance its character.
