Elm wood offers a balanced combination of strength and workability. Its warm brown color, bold grain and interlocked structure make it ideal for pieces with movement and visual depth. With a density of 630–680 kg/m³, it remains solid without becoming too heavy.
Known botanically as Ulmus minor and sourced from central and southern Europe, it performs well on both lathe and carving bench. Its grain calls for sharp tools and a steady hand. Suitable for functional bowls, turned handles, decorative reliefs or sculptural forms. Our store offers sturdy chisels, medium abrasives and neutral oils to work it confidently and highlight its natural grain.
