Stick-Lac Crude Shellac is a solid natural resin produced by the Kerria lacca insect on tree branches in Southeast Asia. It appears as irregular fragments containing natural impurities such as plant fibers and insect residues.
This raw form of gum lac is ideal for those wishing to prepare traditional handcrafted varnishes, offering a warm, glossy finish that respects the acoustic and aesthetic properties of wood. It is widely used in lutherie, especially for bowed string instruments and the restoration of antique instruments.
When dissolved in alcohol, it produces solutions that can be filtered and refined according to the specific requirements of each varnishing project.
