Big Leaf Maple

SCIENTIFIC NAME:Acer saccharum Marsh

ORIGIN: North America.

DESCRIPTION: Light wood with a density of 630-700 kg/m3. The color of the wood is white with reddish coloration in the sapwood and pale reddish brown in the heartwood. The grain is straight, although it may occasionally have wavy grain. The grain is fine.

USE: It is used mainly in Guitar and Electric Bass bodies, also in lathe work and furniture.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Sawing is difficult, machining presents problems and it is a difficult wood to sand. It presents good aptitudes for steam bending. Gluing and finishing present no problems.
