Mastic Resin 100 g

Mastic resin is a solid natural resin with a light yellow tone and a brittle, slightly waxy texture. It is primarily harvested from Pistacia lentiscus var. chia, a specific variety of mastic tree that grows almost exclusively on the Greek island of Chios. It can also be found, to a lesser extent, in Turkey and other parts of the eastern Mediterranean.

Used for centuries in traditional varnish-making and artistic restoration, it is highly regarded in lutherie for its ability to add flexibility and gloss to varnish blends, especially when combined with shellac. Its transparency and easy solubility in turpentine make it ideal for finishes that preserve the wood’s natural look while offering long-lasting protection.

It is especially suitable for traditional formulations, both for new builds and for restoring antique instruments.
