Dammar resin is a natural, pale yellow resin with a slightly brittle texture and smooth fracture. It is harvested from the resin that seeps naturally from certain trees native to Southeast Asia, and has traditionally been used in the preparation of varnishes and mediums for fine arts and restoration.

In lutherie, it is valued for its ability to produce glossy, transparent finishes, especially when mixed with shellac or dissolved in turpentine. It forms a protective film that enhances the wood’s natural appearance without altering its color, offering excellent optical clarity in the final result.
