Pax Reversible Saw for Luthiers Thomas Flinn

The Pax Reversible Saw is a tool designed and made in Sheffield by Thomas Flinn & Co, a company with over a century of producing reference-quality saws for workshops around the world. Its defining feature is the rotating handle: the mirror-polished brass back allows the walnut handle to be turned to change the cutting orientation, making this saw suitable for both right and left-handed workers, and capable of reaching any awkward angle or tight corner.

In lutherie, this saw is designed for cuts in difficult areas where a conventional saw cannot reach or manoeuvre comfortably. The cranked handle — angled to keep the hand away from the work surface — gives a clear sightline to the cut and maintains control even in awkward positions. With 15 teeth per inch, it produces a clean, controlled cut in lutherie timbers. It is equally useful for repair work and any situation where access is restricted by the geometry of the instrument.

The mirror-polished brass back adds rigidity to the blade and keeps the cut true. The walnut handle with brass ferrule gives a comfortable grip in any position. The blade can be resharpened, considerably extending the working life of the tool.

Technical Specifications

  • Blade length: 250 mm (10")
  • Teeth per inch (TPI): 15
  • Handle: walnut with brass ferrule, cranked and rotating
  • Back: mirror-polished brass, rotating
  • Use: right and left-handed
