Description of the Metal Spacer 50mm

This galvanized steel spacer sits under the pickup coil and leads the magnetic field to the adjustable pole pieces. It has 10 holes, for 50 mm spacing and is designed for use with P-90 pickups. The remaining holes are intended for the pickup mounting screws.

The P-90 pickup was developed by Gibson in 1946 as an evolution of its early single-coil pickups. Its design, attributed to Walter Fuller, featured a wide and flat coil with Alnico magnets placed beneath the adjustable pole pieces, giving it a warmer and more powerful sound than the Fender-style pickups of the time. Originally used in iconic models such as the 1952 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop and the brand’s archtops, the P-90 was eventually displaced in the 1950s by humbucker pickups. However, it remains highly appreciated for its characteristic thick and articulate tone, striking a balance between brightness and warmth that makes it unique.
