Pax Veneer and Marquetry Saw Thomas Flinn

The Pax Veneer Saw is a specialised tool made in Sheffield by Thomas Flinn & Co, a company with over a century of history making quality saws for workshops worldwide. Its 76mm blade makes it the dedicated tool for cutting veneers, inlays and marquetry work where precision and a clean finish are non-negotiable.

What makes this saw unique is its dual tooth formation: one side carries a crosscut tooth pattern, the other a rip-cut pattern, both at 15 TPI. By rotating the blade in the brass back, the luthier or marquetry worker selects the cut they need in a second without changing tools. The blade has no set — no lateral opening of the teeth — which produces a very clean, controlled cut in fine veneers without tearing or splintering them. A particularly valuable feature is that it allows cuts to be started in the centre of a panel without having to begin from the edge, opening up possibilities that other saws simply cannot offer.

The mirror-polished brass back adds rigidity to the blade and acts as a central support. The walnut handle with brass ferrule gives a secure, comfortable grip even on the most delicate cuts. The blade can be resharpened.

Technical Specifications

  • Blade length: 76 mm (3")
  • Blade width: 19 mm (¾")
  • Blade thickness: 0.022" (0.56 mm)
