The Nitorlack Freeze Spray is the specific tool for creating a realistic checking effect on guitars finished with nitrocellulose lacquer. It works by thermal shock: the instant cooling causes the nitro layer to crack naturally, replicating the ageing of vintage instruments.
Suitable for both new guitar builds and partcaster projects, and for restorations where a realistic checking finish is the goal. The application distance determines the type of checking: at close range (approx. 15 cm) you get a tight spider-web pattern; at greater distance, the checking is wider and more open. The effect is permanent and leaves no residue or moisture.
Important: It is only effective on fully cured nitrocellulose lacquer. For a more realistic result, Nitorlack recommends a minimum curing time of 2-3 weeks before applying. It does not work on polyurethane, polyester or water-based finishes.
Instructions for use
Ensure the nitrocellulose lacquer is fully cured (minimum 2-3 weeks recommended).
Shake the spray for 20-30 seconds.
Apply at 15-25 cm distance over the desired area.
The effect appears within seconds, once the thin layer of frost disappears.
Repeat if greater intensity is desired.
