Description of AA Honduras Rosewood Classical Guitar Sides

Honduran Rosewood (Dalbergia stevensonii), also known as Rosul, is one of the most prized woods for building classical and acoustic guitars, especially for backs and sides. Its high density and stiffness provide exceptional projection, delivering a deep and well-balanced sound, enhancing the bass and midrange with great harmonic richness. Compared to Brazilian Rosewood, it offers a slightly brighter character in the upper midrange, making it an ideal choice for guitars with a warm yet defined tone.

It is a wood that allows for beautiful finishes, in dark brown tones with lighter or reddish veins. In the case of Honduran Rosewood, most pieces are cut along the grain, meaning quartered or “mallé”, although some may be partially flat-sawn, due to the small diameter of the logs. This also happens with other exotic woods such as Cocobolo, Ziricote, or Exotic Ebony, for example.

In any case, when these woods are cut this way, although it may not be the most ideal in terms of sound and instrument stability, it will instead endow the instrument with incredible beauty.

Being an oily wood, it is advisable to thoroughly clean the surfaces before gluing to ensure an optimal bond. Honduran Rosewood is a top-tier choice for luthiers seeking a stable, resonant wood with spectacular aesthetics.

Carefully Selected AA Grade

For AA grade, we select healthy, visually appealing pieces with a uniform color and evenly spaced fibers, ensuring a harmonious aesthetic. Occasionally, a piece may have a tiny, almost imperceptible knot on one side, which does not affect its performance.

Higher grades are distinguished by a greater density, which enhances their darker and more elegant appearance while also improving sound quality, providing a faster and more defined response.
