AAA Western Red Cedar Tops Semi-Cut Natural Dry 20 Years Classical Guitar
Western red cedar tops specially selected for building classical guitars, delivered in a semi-finished format. These pieces are already cut to shape, making the building process easier, although they still require thickness calibration and rosette installation, allowing the luthier to adjust the final details and thicknesses according to their acoustic and aesthetic preferences.
Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) is one of the most highly regarded woods for classical guitar soundboards. It offers a warm, rich, and nuanced tone, with excellent projection and dynamic response. Its low weight and high stiffness provide the ideal balance between touch sensitivity and volume, qualities highly appreciated by both luthiers and performers.
Visually, it displays a warm color palette, ranging from light brown to reddish tones, with a fine and elegant grain that adds character to each instrument.
How Do We Classify These Western Red Cedar Tops?
In AAA quality, the tops are cut perfectly at 90º radial, with a uniform color throughout. Many show silky medullary rays across the entire surface and have straight, narrow growth rings. These pieces are free of defects and deliver an excellent sound power response.
