Torrefied Hard Maple Fingerboard 530 × 75 × 9 mm

Hard Maple (Acer saccharum) is one of the most widely used woods for electric guitar fingerboards, particularly when a fast response and high structural stability are required. This hard maple features a homogeneous internal structure and medium-high density, offering precise workability and very predictable behavior during slotting, radiusing, and final setup.

These pieces are not graded by quality. Selection excludes cracked pieces or those with serious defects, ensuring only sound and usable blanks are supplied. Natural variations in color, grain pattern, or growth ring spacing may be present, reflecting the inherent characteristics of the wood. This approach provides a solid, functional mid-grade standard suitable for new builds or replacement projects.

Torrefaction process

This fingerboard has undergone a torrefaction process, a thermochemical treatment carried out under vacuum. During the process, moisture and other volatile compounds are removed, while cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin retain their structure.

As a result, the wood loses approximately 20% of its mass with no significant change in volume. This produces drier, more stable pieces with a more predictable response to temperature and humidity changes, comparable to that of naturally long-aged wood. The process also gives the maple a characteristic toasted color, appreciated for both practical and aesthetic reasons.

When applied to a Hard Maple fingerboard, torrefaction helps reduce the tendency to move over time, supporting more durable setups and facilitating workshop work, particularly regarding long-term dimensional stability.
