When to level the frets?

Leveling or straightening is a process that involves grinding the frets with a flat abrasive surface tool so they are all the same height once placed on the fretboard. When installing new frets it is always necessary to do at least a small leveling to minimize any possible irregularities that may have occurred during placement. Furthermore, the leveling process is also an excellent alternative when a guitar has problems with fretting or buzzing caused by the wear generated by the strings at specific points of the frets, so leveling is done if there is no excessive wear and there is a margin of material that allows it. A properly done leveling job allows to have a lower string action without facing humming or fret buzz problems when playing.
