Alder 3-Piece Guitar / Electric Bass Body Description

Alder, like basswood, is a light, smooth porous and compact wood. In addition, Alder is characterised by a spiral grain pattern with stronger rings and sections: a texture like that of basswood but with its entire surface seasoned with rings of superior hardness. This texture increases the stiffness of the wood and enriches the complexity of the tones, so that it retains most of the treble that basswood dampens, offering a wider bass range. In addition, the tone spectrum is broader than that of basswood, so the mids are not as deep.

The density of alder is 500-550 kg/m3. The colour of this wood is light reddish brown with dark streaks. The sapwood is indistinguishable from the heartwood. The grain is straight and the grain is smooth.

Tooling does not present any problems, though it is recommended to work with very sharp tools. Gluing and finishing also present no problems.

It is a wood that dries quickly and there are hardly any defects.
