Ayous 3 Piece Body Electric Guitar/Bass Overview

Ayous, also known as obeche, is a light-colored African wood with a smooth, even grain. It machines well, whether sawing, sanding, or planing. Once considered a budget wood for lower-quality guitars, it has gradually proven to be an excellent and affordable option, offering a tone similar to mahogany but at a much lower cost.

In the 1970s, some British builders like Shergold and Burns used ayous, and today, renowned luthier Paul Reed Smith has incorporated it into several of his models.

Its light weight, ease of workability, and excellent stain absorption are just a few of its many qualities. Thanks to its affordability and lightweight nature, it is an ideal choice to pair with one of our many Drop Tops made from exotic woods—whether you're building a bass or a guitar.

Three-piece ayous bodies are more affordable than one-piece bodies, though they require some additional gluing. Few tonewoods offer better value for the price.
