A Curly Maple Acoustic Guitar Sides
Overview A Curly Maple Acoustic Guitar Sides:
In our opinion, few woods have the potential of a curly maple side. Usually used by prestigious builders such as Santa Cruz or Bourgeois, or in iconic models such as Gibson's SJ-200. It is undoubtedly one of the most sought after tonewoods for its acoustic qualities.
Experts say that it has a brighter tone than mahogany, with a faster attack and a very quick response to the touch. All this without even taking into account its incredible curly aspect, which acquires almost three-dimensional shades once it has been lacquered.
European maple - Acer pseudoplatanus - is a light-colored wood, with golden reflections that intensify when oxidized. It is a wood with no appreciable grain, which in many cases eliminates the need to use a filler. It is easy to work despite its hardness (although it requires sharp tools) and a bright and attractive finish can be achieved simply by using a scraper or planer, without even needing sandpaper. It is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant woods to work with.
In the A grade sides you will find the perfect sides for sunburst finishes. With a regular though less prominent flaming than in higher categories, its acoustic qualities remain unaltered. White color with golden reflections that may present some small blotches or knots. They will normally be paired with same quality backs.
